Free Pattern Friday- Ghost Appliqué
Hello Everyone!
Every few weeks I will offer a Free Pattern Friday that uses the stitches I feature in the blog. Today is a cute little ghost appliqué to bring in the spooky season!
What I love about this pattern is that it is easily customizable by adding your own faces to the ghosts! You can also add them to a chain to make a garland, add them to blankets or clothing for themed articles, and so much more! I enjoyed adding them to a coffee cozy for enjoying my fall beverages.
Of course, if you’d prefer to have an easy to read pattern on a PDF, you can purchase the pattern in my Etsy shop HERE.

This pattern is easy enough for beginners and utilizes the following stitches:
Single Crochet (sc)
Slip Stitch (sl st)
Chain (ch)
Back Loop Only (BLO)
A BLO stitch is easy once you do it a few times. in the pattern video, you can see an easy explanation!
This pattern uses Size 4 yarn and a size H/8 (5mm) hook.
Pattern:
Row 1- ch 13, sc in 2nd chain from hook, complete 11 sc. St 3 sc in top stitch. On the other side of the chain, sc 10. Ch 1, turn.
When you are adding the stitches on the other side, you’re looking for a “gap.” it won’t look like a traditional stitch, but rather a gap and yarn making an X across the top.
Row 2- in 2nd loop from hook, sc 11. St 3 sc in top loop. On the other side, sc 11.
This time you WILL have traditional stitches to crochet into when you turn to the other side.
Row 3- ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook. Continue sc in BLO for 13 additional sc. There will be a total of 14 sc on this side. St 3 sc in top stitch. On the other side, 12 sc in BLO.
When you are crocheting in the back loop, you are not going to crochet in the middle of the stitch, but rather insert your hook into the middle of the stitch and through the back loop.
Row 4- ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook. Continue sc in BLO for 14 additional sc. There will be a total of 15 sc on this side. St 3 sc in top stitch. On the other side, 14 sc in BLO. Sl st to finish, fasten off and weave.
If you need something to crochet along to, here is a video of my crocheting the appliqué! Warning- it’s unedited, so it’s literally me crocheting this in real time. good news, it only takes 14 minutes!
